Organising your Wardrobe
PLAN
What do you want to achieve by organising your wardrobe?
- Set yourself a goal - what do you want to achieve by organising your wardrobe? Do you want to create space for more items, do you want to cut the clutter, make it easier to access items? Once your have decided on your objective it is then time to set your goal.
SORT
Which items do you use regularly and want to keep?
- 20% of your wardrobe is used 80% of the time. You can create space and find items more easily by de-cluttering. The main advantage of sorting your wardrobe is not just for space saving reasons but also time saving reasons.
- Start by taking absolutely everything out of your wardrobe
- Create four piles on your bed or use four large garbage bags. The four piles/bags should be for clothes to “Keep”, “Throw Out”, “Give Away”, “Not Sure”. Sort your clothes into these four piles. After you have completed this go back to the “Not Sure” pile and sort through this pile again. Your “Throw Out” and “Give Away” piles should be put to one side.
- Using your “Keep” pile, sort the clothes by clothing type and then by colour. Think of the frustration prevented when you’re running late and you can easily see all your shirts, tops, trousers, etc.
- If you have extra space you can also sort by season. Store your out-of-season clothing in another area away from your current wardrobe until that season returns. This makes it easier to find what you are looking for and your wardrobe is dedicated to each season.
STORE
How and where can you store the items you have kept?
- Group like items - bags, shoes, hats, scarves, ties should all be stored together.
- Clothes should be stored on quality hangers to protect the shape of the clothing.
- Shoes take up a large space especially if you like your shoes! Use a shoe rack to increase space. To protect your special pairs of shoes use clear Shoe Boxes and Inflatable Booty Shapers to maintain the shape of your boots.
- Use hanging Space Bags to store out of season items.
